The water palace built in 1948 by the raja of karangasem, anak agung anglurah ketut karangasem. its a maze of pools and fountains surrounded by a lush garden, stone carvings and statues. the one hectare complex was built in 1946 by the late king of karangsem but was destroyed almost entirely by the eruption of nearby mount agung in 1963. it has been lovingly re-built and restored and has an air of authentic royal magnificence. the centrepiece of the palace is an eleven tiered fountain and there are many beautiful carvings and statues adorning the gardens. Taman ujung was built in 1909 at the initiative of anak agung anglurah. its architects were a dutchman named van den hentz and a chinese man named loto ang. the construction also involved an *undagi* (a traditional balinese architect). taman ujung was essentially an expansion of the dirah pond, which had been constructed in 1901. construction of taman ujung was completed in 1921. in 1937, taman ujung karangasem was officially inaugurated with a marble inscription featuring text in both latin and balinese scripts, as well as in two languages : malay and balinese. Virgin beach (also known as pantai perasi, white sand beach) is scluded, stunning cove on bali’s east coast bugbug village karangasem. swim, rent basic snorkeling gear for about IDR 100,000, or grab fresh seafood and a coconut at one of the local warungs right on the sand.
